Third, as commonly seen in all major industries, as long as drug companies and the cancer industry see profits in these treatments [chemotherapy], there will be little motivation to change. Dr. George D. Lundberg, former editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association, pulled no punches when he said of chemotherapy: '[It’s] a marvelous opportunity for rampant deceit. So much money is there to be made that ethical principles can be overrun sometimes in a stampede to get at physicians and prescribers.'
And in a small percentage of cases, chemotherapy absolutely does help, which is not to say that other approaches wouldn’t work as well or even better. But it is, in fact, this minimal success rate that fuels the continued use of the therapy. Based on these occasional short-term successes, doctors will often pressure patients to opt for the therapy even when it has little chance of success in their particular cases.
But above and beyond everything else, it’s important to understand that chemotherapy does nothing to address the underlying cause of the cancer. No doctor has ever told their patient that the
