The satanic leaf-tailed gecko (Uroplatus phantasticus) is the smallest of 12 species of bizarre-looking leaf-tailed geckos. The nocturnal creature has extremely cryptic camouflage so it can hide out in forests.

Scientists have managed to cure mice of behavioural symptoms of Down syndrome, taking them closer to a cure in humans. The breakthrough came after the discovery a protein, known as SNX27, which is lacking in the brains of humans with Down syndrome. When the protein was restored in mice, their learning, memory and cognitive function improved.
