Some amazing baby facts!
1. Men are the best at changing a baby's diaper. Men take just over a 1 minute while women can
take over 2 minutes to change a diaper. This will come in handy given that on average a baby will go through about 7,500 diapers per year.
2. About 1/4 of a baby's weight is accounted for by their head. Their brain accounts for about 10% of its total body weight. In adults the brain is only about 2% of their body weight. The males brain is slightly larger than that of the female brain at all stages of development. If you eat fish during pregnancy you can increase your baby's brain development as well as provide them with better communication skills.
3. Studies suggest that cesarean babies are more likely to have breathing difficulties, since they miss out important hormonal and physiological changes that occur during labor.
4. A baby has around 10,000 taste buds, which is far more than any adult has. Taste buds in babies can be found on their tongue, roof, sides and back of their mouth. These extra taste buds do disappear once they get older.
5. It is the father's sperm that decides the sex of your baby and it is determined at around 10 weeks after birth whether your baby is right-handed or left-handed.
6. Newborn babies urinate about every 20 minutes and once they reach 6 months they urinate every hour.
7. Babies are born with many super human powers such as a strong grasp that is able to hold their entire body weight with just their fingers and being able to swim and hold their breath under water immediately after being born. However the ability to swim and hold their breath under water quickly leaves.
8. If your child is overweight, they are up to 5 times more likely to have a heart attack by the age of 65. If your child is born in the month of May they are on average 200 grams heavier at birth then other babies. The heaviest baby born on record is just over 22 lb. and was born in 1955.
9. When babies are born they have 300 bones, but by adult they only have 206 boned in their body. This is due to the fact that some bones fuse together.
10. The only organ to develop fully before birth is the inner ear. It reaches its adult size by the middle of pregnancy. On the contrary babies are born with no kneecaps. Kneecaps don’t develop until about 6 months.
